FOURDIGIT has  released  a short film featuring “MOM FoR STAR,” our employment and collaboration project for single mothers in Okinawa within the digital design industry.

 

Launched in April 2021, MOM FoR STAR has officially entered its sixth year this April. Moving beyond traditional “employment support,” we aim to expand our community as a sustainable, ongoing project.

 

To establish this initiative as a permanent part of the social infrastructure—rather than a one-time effort — FOURDIGIT has also launched an endowment-style fund and is now accepting donations to support the project’s long-term, sustainable operation.

 

 

 

Okinawa Prefecture faces long-standing structural challenges, with child poverty and single-parent household rates exceeding the national average. A particularly critical issue is the intergenerational cycle of these difficulties.

 

To break this cycle, MOM FoR STAR has focused on providing employment support through the acquisition of IT and creative skills. Over the past five years, we have witnessed a tangible change: seeing a mother take on new challenges and acquire professional skills fosters a sense of hope for the future within her children. This film was produced to share this “authentic hope” that we have witnessed firsthand on the ground.

 

Starring the talented actor Takara Sakumoto, the film is told from a young man’s perspective. It portrays the resilience of the mothers involved in MOM FoR STAR and how their courage inspires him to re-evaluate his own career and finally express gratitude to his mother—feelings he had never been able to voice before.

To ensure the achievements of the past five years become a permanent part of the local social infrastructure rather than a one-off project, we are introducing an endowment-style fund as a new financial management model. By pooling donations as a principal and using the investment returns to cover operating costs, we aim to build a system that enables long-term support without depleting the original fund.

– Purpose: Allocation to MOM FoR STAR operating expenses and the endowment fund.

– Donation Methods (Multiple options planned):

　- Through a public interest foundation (eligible for tax incentives in Japan).

　- Direct donation to the General Incorporated Association Every Star Story.

　- Loan-style contributions to the fund.

MOM FoR STAR is a collaboration between FOURDIGIT Inc. (Tokyo), Umusan Lab (Okinawa), and Single Mothers Forum Okinawa. Based on the pillars of “Learn, Work, and Connect,” the project provides a collaborative program where mothers can acquire digital design skills from zero experience and work as professional team members.

 

Since its launch in 2021, the project has been honored with several prestigious awards, including:

Our program supports mothers in gaining skills within one year, enabling them to handle digital design work together with our team. By supporting the skill development and career advancement of single mothers, we aim to achieve financial stability, mutual aid, and a fulfilling work environment.
